MEDIATION
I am mediator accredited by Mediation UK in 2006 with over 15 years of experience; mainly in the community context. I worked for three years for Hackney Council's mediation service as their Case Manager and more recently with Camden Mediation Service for seven years. I have mediated in a wide variety of cases over the years including neighbour, community, intergenerational, workplace and relationship disputes. I have supervised and managed a team of volunteer mediators as well as supporting them by delivering on-going professional development training sessions.
ACCREDITATION
My assessment as a "Competent Mediator" by Mediation UK is in line with the Community Legal Service's requirements for supervising mediators. My academic background in Social Anthropology with a particular interest in cross-cultural communication and dispute resolution has undoubtedly enriched my experience in mediation. I have recently attended training with the Conflict Resolution Centre in Workplace and Employment Mediation Skills.
TRANSFORMATIVE MEDIATION
My mediation practice has been rooted in the Transformative Mediation Model for the past 8 years since joining the team at Camden Mediation Service. I am very comfortable with this style and approach to mediation. The model feels very aligned to my way of viewing the moment of crisis in human interaction and a sense of how to support the well-being of others through personal empowerment. In this inspiring model the mediator is comfortable with conflict and helps to support clients to make decisions at a time when everything can feel overwhelming and confusing. The Transformative Mediator appreciates that in general human beings have a strong desire to be understood and to understand each other.
FINDING BALANCE
Practising Meditation, Yoga and Thai Massage has definitely helped me to balance some of the pressures and challenges of working as a community mediator in inner-city London. Recently a mediator peer commented "your foundation in meditation and yoga demonstrates your strong sense of self and presence in a mediation...your calmness and passion for mediation which I think really translates in the way you hold and value relationships".
CO-MEDIATION + TRAINING
I am affiliated with a group of independent mediation practitioners with a rich depth of experience in community, medical, workplace, intergenerational, schools and retirement communities. We meet on a regular monthly basis for supervision and training support. As well as offering mediation services in a wide variety of contexts we are also available for training, supervision and conflict coaching. Meetings are available face to face or via SKYPE. Feel free to contact me for further information on how to book a mediator or trainer.
